Any Time Now

On this program Alex Kreis is joined by Tournament Angler Russ Brotherton to try out the Walleye fishing on Lake Newell in Southern Alberta.  This irrigation reservoir has been written up as one of the best Walleye fisheries in Southern Alberta.  The boys fished lake for three days in some tough summer conditions.  The temperature soared to 34c and there wasn't a lick of wind to cool things down.  The fish were as lethargic as Walleye get, and it took a lot of searching to find any takers.  Patience and persistence paid off, yet again, and the guys landed a number of good sized Walleyes.

Finally!

It took a while but Alex finally hooks into a nice Lake Newell Walleye.

Tools Handy?

As Alex will remind you often...it's critical to the fishes well-being to have your tools handy when you're catch and release fishing.  Alex grabs his long nose pliers from a handy pouch on his hip.

Got Er'!

Alex helps Russ get a bruiser Walleye in the boat.  Notice the net the guys are using.  It has a rubber mesh and has been proven to cause the least amount of harm to the fish when you're releasing your catch.  If you don't have one you could be causing damage to the scales and fins of your catch.

Nice Eye Eh?!

Although the fishing was tough Russ is a seasoned tournament angler and managed to hook into this "lunker eye".  The fish weighed in at around 6 pounds.

See Ya Later

As any good angler knows a quick landing, gentle handling, and soft release ensures that the fish will fully recover from it's brief ordeal, and swim off to provide other anglers with a great fight in the future.
