PICHIMI LAKE

Host Alex Kreis and the Fishing Alberta crew headed back to the Caribou Mountain Wilderness in Northern Alberta.  The chance to fish for fall Lake Trout on Pichimi Lake was an offer we couldn't refuse.  In typical Alberta fashion the weather turned from clear blue skies to howling winds and pouring rain, but who cares...the fish were biting!  Alex headed out on Pichimi Lake to slow troll spoons for pre spawn Lake Trout.  The ticket here was to find the gravel shoals where the fish would be staging for the annual spawn.  After a few tries the boys found a hot spot where the fish were stacked up.  The magic depth was 7.4 feet, the perfect speed was 1 MPH, and the hot spoon was the 1 ounce Mepps Syclops Electric Blue.  In just over 4 hours Alex hooked and landed more than a dozen Lakers in the 10-16 pound class.

Magical Morning

All is calm on Margaret Lake, our step-off point to Pichimi Lake and some great fall fishing for Lake Trout.

3-2-1 Action!

Videographer Scott Rawlings gets the shot as Alex and crew get ready to dock and de-plane at Pichimi Lake.

Flyin' And Fishin'

Bush pilot James takes a break from flying to dip a line in Pichimi Lake. Imagine being able to access the lake of your choice and fish right off the pontoons.  It's a tough life but somebody's got to do it!

What A Way To Start

It didn't take long to find a staging area for fall spawners on Pichimi Lake.  Alex shows off a nice 10 pound Laker, the first of a dozen or so that were eager to hit the Mepps Syclops Electric Blue spoon.

Weather, What Weather?

Mother Nature threw some nasty fall weather our way, but with Mustang Survival suits to keep us warm, and non-stop Laker action to keep us busy, the weather was of little consequence.

I Just Gotta Do It

Executive Producer/Videographer Scott Rawlings just couldn't resist getting in on the action.  While Alex grabbed a quick bite to eat Scott landed a couple of nice Lakers.

Non-Stop Action

When the bite is on at Pichimi, it's really on.  Alex poses with a couple more Lakers that couldn't resist the Mepps Blue/Chrome Syclops.

Thanks Henry

Alex and Scott with Margaret Lake Lodge Manager Henry Gandjambe.  Henry's scouting report helped put us right on the fish.
