This Way To Awesome Pike Fish'n!

It’s mid July and we’ve just discovered a great little lake only 30 minutes from the town of Lac La Biche. It’s kind of odd that for all the times we’ve been in this area of Alberta no one ever mentioned Square Lake. We soon figured out that the anglers in this area have kept this little gem quiet for a reason.

Float The Boat

Alex backs the big Lund 1800 Fisherman down the boat launch, while Scott gets ready to fire it up. The boat launch at Square Lake is a little shallow so if you want to launch anything over a 12 or 14 footer it’s a good idea to have a 4 wheel drive vehicle.

They Gotta Be Here Somewhere

Fishing a new lake is always a challenge but armed with a few tips from Albert at Lac La Biche Sporting Goods, a great boat, decent sonar, and a whole day ahead, Alex was confident that we would find those big nasty Northerns

Alex Gets On The Board

It didn’t take Alex long to hook his first fish. When in doubt, pull out your trusty crank bait and troll, troll, troll

Once they found the zone it didn’t take long to get into non-stop Northern Pike action. Scott & Alex show great fish handling techniqueas they release a couple of nice pike. Both fish were none the worse for wear.

As the day went on Scott was getting a little cocky about the number of fish he was catching. Alex decided to let his rod and lure do the talking and landed this 12+ pound beauty. This turned out to be the big fish of the day. He who laughs last laughs loudest!
