Lesser Slave Lake
| Called 'The Largest Recreational Lake in Alberta', Lesser Slave is a favorite destination of Walleye anglers. |
| Lesser Slave Lake has a reputation for being one of the top Walleye fisheries in North America. Now although I had fished the lake on a few occasions, I certainly did not consider myself to be an expert on this huge body of water. So we decided in order to maximize our efforts we were better off to hook up with one of the many local experts on Lesser Slave Lake. |

We hooked up with Grant Gramiak from Norms Walleye camp who came highly recommended by others from the area, and he insisted we be there the second or third week of July for the hot bite. |
| We made our plans and booked the trip for the second week of July, allowing for a few extra days just in case the weather decided to hamper our efforts. This is always a wise move if you plan a trip to the region simply due to the size of the lake. If the wind picks up you are better off waiting it out instead of risking your life for a few fish. As it turned out Mother Nature was good to us, the very first morning out the lake was calm and the bite was hot. Most of the fish weren’t that big but they were very plentiful and eager to please. |

Keith Denoncourt was along on this trip to lend a hand and operate our production boat, and he even managed to wet a line form time to time. As a matter of fact he tied in to the biggest fish of the trip, we never weighed it but we all guessed it would go around 7 to 8lbs. That night Keith had a conversation with the local Biologist, and discovered the shiners were in the middle of their spawning cycle at this time of year right where we were fishing and of course the Walleyes were taking full advantage of the food source. Talk about being in the right place at the right time. |
| For the full scoop on what techniques were used to wrangle up the Walleyes on this trip stay tuned as the new season is about to begin in the next few weeks on A-Channel |
