Catch and Release Photos

The photos in the following section were sent to us by anglers practicing catch and release.  We congratulate them on their dedication to preserving our precious aquatic resources.

From Boomer and Janna
"I caught this Char with the first ever bucktail I have tied. It took me 30 minutes to land the lunker that weighed in at just under 8 pounds. After some photos I released the beauty back to the river."

From Nadine and Rob
May long week-end on Touchwood Lake 2006.
"
Made a fisherman out of my 12 yr old son this past week-end, He had the luckier line this time.  My daughter caught her very first Fish ever... all I did was cast it out the side. She hooked and cranked the reel while I supported the Rod. Unfortunately I rinsed the slimys off accidentally released the fish before she could pose for the camera... but wife caught a net shot."

Heather Coubrough sent this one in; she writes:

"This is our big northen pike that we caught through the ice on Ethal lake.It weighted 15 pounds which I have been told is a monster to be caught in that lake.It took a long time but we finally managed to get our monster though the hole that was almost too small. It was the bigest fish I ever saw."

Dustin Styner sent us this collection of pictures from this year .  He writes:

I caught this 30 inch, 12lb+ bull trout in November on Kootenay Lake on a guided trip with RR Getaway.
This is my 32 inch, 20lb+ rainbow from Kootenay Lake that I caught on a fly that I tied.

I caught lots of really nice browns out of the Bow this year, with these two being the biggest-25.25 and 24.75 inches.
This summer I got a trip out to the Prince Rupert/ Kitimat area and hooked into some monster chum salmon on the river.  This was my biggest at 39.75 inches and set the new Canadian catch and release record.
I estimated that this 19 inch bass was pushing the five lb mark.
My biggest pike this year was a 36 incher out of Sylvan Lake.  Sure put up a fight on six lb line.
I hooked into this nice walleye up at Sylvan Lake and then found out they don't want you fishing on the docks.  Still one of my best ever.
Terry Chow sent us this series of Walleye pics from the Red Deer River. He writes:
"Thought I  might send some pictures of Walleyes caught on the Red Deer River this past weekend. Fish were from 7 lbs to the largest at 12 lb's. There is an picture of Kelly and myself. It was a double header with Kelly with a 9 and I hooked into a 12 ! Also caught a Saugeye which was around 7.5 lbs. Buddy Rob (Dusk to Dawn Guiding) took us both in his Jet Boat. Although fishing was somewhat slow, there was some quality fish that were caught and released....."

This beauty was caught by Jackson on Pigeon Lake, he writes:

"One day in September my dad and I went fishing at Pigeon lake. This is the lake that we go to catch tons of pike. Every single time we go there we go to our special spot that is 8 feet deep. We started fishing and right off the bat I caught a 25 inch 3 pound pike. At that time I thought that, that was the biggest fish I'd catch yet. About an hour later I cast my line out and a whopper pike jumped out of the water . As we were amazed by how big that pike was, we decided we were going on a hunt for it. About 10 minutes later I felt a tug... then another.... and then one huge tug. At that point I set my hook and the fish was on. It took me about 1 minute to get the fish to jump and boy did he look big. When we got him, he was 37 inches and weighed about 17 pounds. After that my arms were super sore".

Here's a few from David Ly, he writes.
"Hey I just wanted to let you know, that I watch your show all the time.  You guys rock! It was early spring and the ice had just melted.  Me and a buddy of mine went down to our usual fishing spot at the crack of dawn.  We had been fishing all day long without an even one bite.  It was getting really late, we both decided it was best to leave, but then decided to do one last cast each.  Well what can I say, that one last cast made our day.  I caught this beauty using a spin cast rod, on a rapala hook.
I've have also adding a couple of walleyes we caught over this summer."

Here's one from Alberto Cea, and it comes with a story of some 'quality time' spent with his daughter.

"Hi! I wanted to share this first fish with you guys. I have been living  in Canada for two years.  I caught this fella in Wabamun Lake on our first fishing trip out of Edmonton (Sep 2004) with my daughter's 10 buck fishing rod.  I was teaching her how to cast, and this fish came directlly to our spoon, right in front of us. We release it after that."

Jeff Crane caught this 'monster' his comment was:
"Can you believe this little devil actually bit that lure - now we know why pike grow so large, they are born - not afraid of anything!"

Bryan caught this beauty on the Bow, he writes:

Hi guy's, just wanted to say that I love your show! and watch it religiously and have learned a lot from them. Wanted to pass on my Rainbow that I caught in the middle of April on the lower Bow, I hooked him on using a large golden stone fly! He just got by the 26" mark! He put up a really good fight and gave me an aerobatic show with flying out of the river three feet in the air. Thanks again guy's for giving us a great show.

Here's a few that Mark Sokolowski caught on the Bow while nymph fishing.  He writes that the biggest brown (26') was taken on a size 18 olive bead head hares ear. The rainbows were taking size 8 stone fly patterns as were the other browns.

Jason Spenst sent in this series of awesome Pike pics.  He writes; " Just when you start to loose your faith in a fishing hot spot it gets totally renewed when you have a day like this!  Nathan Fontaine and myself were out one Saturday afternoon and fish a favorite location of ours on a Southern Alberta reservoir, when flags to fly with good pike below.  Things were steady all day long, but these fish stood out.  These five fish range from 10.5lbs to 19 lbs."

Here's one from Al Lilke.  He writes; "I caught this beauty in about 40 feet of water on a fly-in fishing trip to Charles Lake. The Suncor recreational club has yearly fishing trips to various northern lakes each year. We didn't weigh this one, just took a picture and released it as the action was picking up that day. Williams wobblers and pearl canoes were working really well. "

Scott Hutchinon from Edmonton (aged 12) caught and released this huge 11 pound Walleye on Calling Lake.  It was at sunset in 12 feet of water, and he was using a spoon at the time.

Hale Schaefer sent this picture of him and his son Owen.  It seems that Owen caught this 19+ inch beauty (over 5 pounds), all on his own, with only a little help with the net.  Not bad for a four-year-old.  Owen out-fished four other grown men that day, and landed five more (this was the best).  His father says the little guy is lucky, and that he's jealous.

Nathan Fontaine of Brooks sent in this one, he writes: "This fish was caught in the South Saskatchewan River, north of Grassy Lake on a pickeral rig and dew worm. It was approximately 1meter long and weighed around 8-10lbs.  Not a monster but a good one at that.  I spent many hours trying to catch a sturgeon and was just about ready to give up.  Now I think it will be a yearly event."

Cam caught this beauty in the Peace Country with a Prince Nymph.  He says it's just an example of one of the many unforgettable days this great provides us with.

Terry Chow sent in this  beauty,  he writes;

Here's a lot of Alberta BULL!  This beauty is from the Lower K. Estimated her to be 14lb or better.  Worked a Jig off shore on 6 lb test and when she hit, the battle was on! Took about 25 minutes till I landed her. Got some quick pics, revived her to fight another day for another lucky Angler......

Brian Bomprezzi sent us this one, he writes:

Here is a picture of a beautiful rainbow trout that I
caught on the upper Bow river.  I was in Calgary
visiting my brother in law and he took me out to the
Bow river for a morning fishing trip. I tried fly
fishing first then switched to spin casting.  I was
casting from shore using a gold spoon when I got the
strike and landed this beauty.  It was the only fish
we caught that day and man I was happy that it was me
who caught it.

Ryan caught this big bull on the 5th of October near Grande Cache.  He and his friend only had a 10 lb scale, which this fish bottomed out immediately.  He estimates it at 14 to 15 pounds.  Unfortunately in his excitement, Ryan's friend cut Ryan's head off in the picture.

Brandon Koperski sent us this series of  pictures.  It looks like he had a great season.

This pike weighed 16 pounds and was caught in February on a anchovy.  When the flag went off my brother and I went racing to the flag as we always do and I beat him this time ... so technically the fish was mine, but for some reason I let him grab it.  He started hauling and we knew it was a big one, but it kind of gave up quickly and the battle ended pretty shortly.  The
line got wrapped around his gill plate and closed them up so I think he got short of breath.

This is a 7 pound 28 inch walleye that my brother Dallas caught this summer in the North Saskatchewan River using a crank bait.  We just went out in the evening cause the week before I nailed a bunch of big pike in the area so I thought we would have the same luck, but he pulled in this walleye
instead.  The big pike must have moved in because we only caught one that was seven pounds.

This was the second lake trout that I ever caught (I caught my first about an hour before this one, but it was only about 5 pounds and really fat).  We were trolling with downriggers at the end of summer and picked up this guy on a Silver Williams Wobbler.  I think I have had that Wobbler for a few years now and never caught anything on it until this day when it caught 4 nice Lakers.  Dallas got the biggest laker though... on my hook too.

This is what you call a last minute walleye!  The sun had already been down for a bit and we were pulling up the tip-ups from a day of pike fishing.  I was pulling a tip-up out that was set in about 20 feet and about half way up I felt some extra weight.  So I set the hook and pulled in this nice walleye.  I guess the big eyes like anchovies too.

Greg Symbaluk of St. Albert, Alberta had a good day on Lac St. Anne he writes:

"Just wanted to share a couple shots with you.  After moving up from Calgary and fishing the Bow, I have had to do a little changing up to learn a little about Walleye fishing.  I'm, hooked.  Last Sunday I had the kind of day every angler dreams of.  Cool, calm day and Walleye pigging out!  We were fishing Lac St. Anne in Alberta. Using jigs we caught and released over 75 Walleye! All nice size. 7 Pike, and 1 Burbot, or Ling Cod.  That one left me speechless. Never having seen one, it was a real surprise."

Steve Ross sent us this one of a Pike he caught on the Red Deer River.  It weighed in at 13 pounds (3 feet long), and was caught in Sept, 2003.  He was using a syclops and some old 8 pound test line at the time.

Here's a 33 inch Rainbow (estimated at 20 lbs) from Wilhelm Kreis (that's right, Alex's father), with a personal best.  He caught it while on a 11 day canoe trip in Bowron Lakes Provincial Park in BC.  The lure was a Williams Whitefish half and half nu-wrinkle, and they were downrigging  about 45 feet deep when he caught it.

Brian Bomprezzi sent us this picture, he writes:

"Hi my name is Brian and here is a picture of the first salmon that I  caught.  I hooked him with a white buzz bomber" in the tail".  My brother in law and I were fishing  in Powell River around Thanksgiving.  I was very thankful that year after hooking into my first salmon.  I am looking forward to being in the same spot this next year.  Keep up the good work guys."

This 9.25 lb lunker was caught and released on Pigeon Lake by Sherrill Simmons with a bottom bouncer and a spinner rig.

Aaron Dyck sent in this photo with the following story;

This is a truely unbelievable fish as well as an unbelievable story. My girlfriend had never fished a river before ( just lakes) so we took a trip down to Lundbreck Falls to fish the Crowsnest. She caught a sucker and that was all. We spent the night in Lundbreck and left in the morning to fish the Old man, Not a day to forget. We arrived and i quickly landed a 16" Rainbow and then about a five pound Burbot within the first hour. I was starting to get a little worried that my girlfriend hadn't caught anything, when I heard a hollar and saw a huge splash. After running down the river chasing my girlfriend who appeared to have a big fish on, she was able to land this beauty about twenty five minutes after it struck. Glow in the dark buzz bomb all the way. With her being too nervous to hold her fish, I got to get the photo op, but only get to tell the story from a bystanders vantage point. By the end of the day she had landed her first "game fish" from a river, a 30.5" Monster Brown Trout. Here's hoping that she will get the exposure she deserves and be able to realize what a great catch she had that day.            Aaron Dyck

Wes Giurissevich caught these big bulls on the Castle river back in September.  The biggest was a 34 incher that was a real challenge to bring in on a 5 wieght rod.

He Finally Took Me Fishing!

"Creating any TV show takes a lot of time and sacrifice and sometimes we don't get to spend as much quality time with our partners as we would like.  This shot shows Executive Producer Scott Rawlings' better-half Brigette with a nice Walleye caught on Travers reservoir"

Paul Pudwell provided these photos, from his angling adventures.

"This little pike was caught by Boyd on Yellow Lake, just southwest of Bow Island"

"7+ Pounder from 40 Mile, caught on a Mepps spoon".

"A Piker in Rattle Snake Lake (Sauder Reservoir)"

"First fish of the day"

"A nice Goldeye, from the South Saskatchewn River"

Curtis Nevraumont sent these pictures highlighting his Steelhead fishing adventures

"Here's a big Steelhead caught in June of 2002.  After a spectacular show of aerial acrobatics this 10lb buck was quickly landed and released."

"I landed this chrome steelhead floatfishing on Vancouver Island during a trip in July.  This fish was landed using 6 lb leader tied to a tri-colored yarn tie."

"Guy Nevraumont, with a beauty steelhead caught on the Harris in mid July.  Fishing a pink marabou jig proved to be very effective."

Edith Sokolowski was upstream of Canmore on the Bow this spring when she caught this brown on a 14 beadhead hares ear nymph

Brian Peace hooked this monster Brown on stoneflies in the Bow river June 7, 2002. It was about 24 inches and extremely fat, "we didn't get a tape on her becuase it took a long time to land her".

Here's Edith with her 26" Lower Bow spring brown trout, from her first trip of the year.

Here's one from Melanie Sieben.  Despite the fact that it broke her rod, she still managed to land this 12 pound, 3 foot 1 inch beauty.

Malcolm Hodges sent this series of photos; he writes:

"Malcolm H. and son, Andrew H. took Papa Hodges from Lagoon City, Ontario to the Crawling Valley Reservoir - Sept 2001.  Great Walleye and Pike fishing!  Some walleye over 5 lbs that day.  Albert, who lives on Lake Simcoe in Ontario doesn't remember a day when he's seen such productive fishing!  The water was lower than ever and we became another casualty of the reservoir by hitting a gravel bar and destroying the engine. A nice couple towed us in - insurance looked after the rest - good thing there were people around because we were a long way out.  Cheers, Malcolm"

Here's James Kowula's first fish of the year.  He got it on the Lower Bow with a geek leech, and it was well over 20"

Shane Allin caught this 20lb pike, measuring 43 inches at Badger Reservoir on a Berkeley Frenzy.  He battled the fish for over 15 minutes.

Another one from Shane Allin.  This is his first Burbot, which he caught while bottom fishing on the Travers Reservoir Spillway.

Rob Campbell - Lethbridge
"Here's a few pic's of my nephew's first ice fishing trip with dad Kurt and myself just after Christmas. Although a fairly accomplished open water fisher kid and all round outdoor nut, Kody (five) had never had the chance to fish through the ice until now. Fortunately we had a rare day on the ice when the temperatures were mild and there was virtually no wind. The Perch along with a few small Pike were biting well on maggots, worms and minnows in about twenty feet of water. What a great way to keep the kids interested in a great sport".

Wayne and Bonnie sent this photo
"This is a good one my son Jeremy caught near Brooks, AB. 39 inches. . Caught Dec.20/06"

Jim Lisowski provided this one.
"Carson Lisowski caught this  21 lb Northern Pike at Newell Lake near Brooks Alberta through the ice Jan 14 2006. The battle was tough, it was not clear if Carson or the Pike would win. Carson pulled the pike in 3 times and it would run out the line again. Finally Carson pervailed, not bad for a eight year old 3rd Grader who is 54" tall. The Northern was 44" long. Carson is a seasoned pike fisherman and has the ice-fishing technique down, now he is an official member of the "20 lber" club at age 8."

Richard Harris sent in these photos he writes:

"Here are a couple pike I got ice fishing on one of my favorite lakes in late march. This one weighed 25lbs and was 45inches in length. I got it on a tipup and still have the battle scars as the shaft stop was spinning so fast each run he took. The second pic (14lbs was from the same lake a few days after) A perfect end to any ice fishing season!!"

This beauty was caught on Eagle Lake AB, in mid July by David Jodoin.

Jeff Crane sent us these photos from Lesser Slave Lake.  The Walleye measured in at 72 cm, the longest he's ever caught.  The sunset is an example of the incredible scenery that Lesser Slave has to offer.

This is a Pike Tim Sather caught at Eagle lake  he writes:

"It was one of our first trips with our new fish hut we designed and built. What's really interesting is that our thermometer outside the hut read -31 Celsius. It was definitely the year to have a nice shelter."

Here's a few from Darcy Stobert

"This is a picture of a 16lb Pike my 3 year old son Jay and I caught fishing at Bassano Dam in Sept, 2003.  The fish was taller than my son but that didn't scare him. "

4.5lb Walleye From Bassano

Brandon and his pike from Crawling Valley

Wayne sent us this picture along with the following story:

"This is my son, Brandon's first fish ever. Brandon and a friend peddled their bikes from Blackfalds to Burbank's on the Red Deer river.  It was caught on a red devil, on twelve pound test line. The pike is 33 and a half inches,11 pounds. He was so excited when he caught it, he didn't even reel it in, he pulled it in by hand. An older gentleman helped him take the hook out. He then road all the way home, carrying the fish in his hand forgetting  all of his stuff at the river including his shoes and backpack. We had to drive back to pick it all up, thankfully the older gentleman was still there fishing and kept an eye on his stuff for him. This was August 7th 2003.He was ten years old at the time."

Chase Sinclair (left), and Lester Harris (right), had a great day on Wabamun in the spring of 2003. This Grandfather/Grandson team was using brass wire worms, and managed to land a 3 pounder..
Vince sent us in this series of pictures taken on Lesser Slave Lake in the summer of 2003.

Small pickerel in hand, caught on a spoon, half as long as that little guy, must have been famished!

Warm, calm day, decided to cool off in the lake, asked for a lifejacket to sit on, and since we were over the pickerel hole, thought I would make a few casts and there you see the results.  Resting on the lifejacket chair, catching pickerel!

Thought we were rigged for pickerel and along comes this Kong perch to take the jig.  Look at the size of the mouth on that perch taking a half oz jig and minnow without issue

Landed this 8 pound pike, and while removing the jig I noticed the forked tail of another fish, a pickerel, still sticking out of his throat - what a pig this pike was!

A couple examples of our ultimate northern Alberta lake sunsets!

10 pound hog:  a nice example of a chucky walleye!

Another gorgeous walleye for sure - but where to you see shamoo mailboxes like that?!

An interesting shot illustrating that fact that the pickerel was down near too big for the knife!

Well one afternoon, I was rigged for pickerel with a jig and a minnow when I felt a bite, a different kind of bite, not much of a fight, just a solid feel on the line, didn't need to net him..................

Darwin Englisbee (two on the right) and friend Bill Smille (one on the left) had a great day on Badger in the fall of 2003.  Bill's weighed in at 6.5 lbs and was the first of the day. Darwin's weighed in at 10.5 and 8.2 respectively.

Andrew Chaban(right) and Bobby Radford (left), sent in this photo of a 13 lb pike they caught at Pigeon Lake.  Andrew writes;  "When they first got there, they had just finished digging the whole in the ice. Bob decided to use his underwater camera to see what was "down below". He put it in the whole and about 20 seconds later......there he was! Just sitting there on the bottom. Bobs rig was the first one ready so he went after it. And you know the really funny thing.....not one fish after that bit on minnows. They caught 4 more using smelts!!! But not one bite using minnows. Maybe fish are smarter than we thought, huh?"

Jason Spenst (left) and his brother Colin (right) have got a thing for pike.  Jason writes: "Two brothers both passionate about giant Alberta PIKE!  Jason caught his on New Years day at Badger Lake (21.5 lbs) with a 6” smelt on a tip-up.  What a way to break in the NEW YEAR!  Colin caught his beauty at Rattlesnake Lake during an ice fishing derby (19.0 lbs).  Unfortunately it wasn’t big enough to take home a prize, better luck next time."
Mitch Campbell sent in this series of pictures, he writes:
On October 18th, we decided to take one last trip up to beautiful Crawling Valley for one last fishing trip before the winter ice settled in, which is about a 50 minute drive from our fair town of Drumheller. Our team consisted of Kirk Greene, Matt Bolin, Brian Olsen, Tyler Pennock and myself. The previous weekend Kirk, Matt, Tyler and I went up there and caught a whopping 41 fish, which convinced us to make one last trip considering the last trip we forgot our cameras...

My first fish of the day, a pretty decent Walleye.

Kirk answered right back with this (much bigger) walleye

Here's another pic of one of my many wally's that day

Brian came up with this nice pike.

... and then there was this guy, who caught a massive 20 pound pike right beside us. Nice Fish!

* please note that all Walleye caught at Crawling Valley were released.

\

Here's a couple from Larry Colby, he writes:

This is my son Matthew with his first catch of the year a 16 and 20.5 inch Cutthroat Trout from Spray Lakes in August of 2003. He still won't let me off the hook as his are still the biggest we caught this year.

Aurel Dumitrescu sent us this photo of his wife Val holding a pike he caught at Crawling Valley on a smelt in the spring of 2000.  This one weighed 14 pounds and was 126 cm. He was not prepared to catch a fish of this size and it did break his 7 lb rod, but thanks to spider line he still managed to land it. He writes that this was the second pike of this size he caught that spring, the first was 120 cm, and 12 pounds, but he did not have any film in his camera.

Here's a couple sent in by Terry Chow

Here's a nice 12" Perch from Burntstick. Outside temperature was -30plus which called for a tent and Heater to make it somewhat comfortable to fish.  My partner and myself dropped our Underwater Cameras down and   there were plenty of Perch on the two Monitors. Perch were everywhere from bottom to 3ft off. They were mostly negative until we worked lures aggressively, which made them follow up. Once they followed up approx. 12 " or so, we held still which usually triggered them to hit. Action was continuous all day and we thought we had died and went to Perch Heaven

This was a 11 3/4" Perch from Gull Lake. Just finished a Derby at Pine Lake and decided to head over to Gull  Lake to try my luck for Lake Whitefish.  Situated myself over a flat that averaged 9ft. Murky water at about 6ft down. I saw an outline and thought it was a Wally. I quickly rigged up with Red Worms and a Marmooska and dropped it down. Didn't have the Camera on this trip, but got to see the fish come up from the Murky water to take my offering. Set the hook and began to bring er' up. Should have seen my expression on my face as it was my best Perch yet (until Burntstick Lake gave up a 12" Perch). Good Perch with nice girth.

Tim MacDonald sent in this picture with the following story.
Sunday February 9th at about 7 am my oldest son came into my room and said, "dad dad are we goin fishin today?"
Shortly after that we were packed up with lunch and the fishing gear, and again, off to the lake we went. Fishing at this lake is usually hit and miss for us but this day was the exception. First we caught some small pike in the morning that we released, then we pulled in the 8.5 lbs Pike. Things were looking good so we put fresh bait on the hooks and tried some more. We just finished lunch when one of the tip-ups went off, we ran over to the hole to see that the fish had wrapped it's self up in the line, the fish ran 3 or 4 times before we could get it back to the hole in sight I knew by the feel of the tension on the line and by the pull it was a descent fish, the fight was on. We managed to get the head in view, all eyes were in the 7 inch hole as it came up then finally I was able to grab the fish, 17 lbs. pike, the biggest any one of us had caught yet. There were smile's all around and we were not done yet. No more than 30 minutes later, another pike, 6 lbs. We had our limit, we wrapped up and left the lake. All the way home the talk was about fishing and how the picture we were going to take of us would look, and who would hold the fish.
I'm not quite sure what is more enjoyable the outdoor fishing or the story's that follow after, but it was sure a great day we won't forget.

Ron Campbell of Lethbridge sent in this series of photos, after catching our Chin/Jensen show.  He writes:
"Sorry your trips to Chin and Jensen's weren't that productive. I have been fishing these places for years and know all to well how frustrating Walleye fishing can be at times. Although, there is still good fishing to be had! Enclosed are a few photo's of Chin and Travers just to let you know just how good these reservoirs can be. The photo's of Chin are from Aug 01, you will see how low the water level was at that time. My brother-in-law and I fished from belly tubes directly under the bridge (to low to launch the boat) and caught about 50 Walleye in a few hours. Travers was last year during the July long weekend. As you can see, we managed to catch Walleye of varying year classes. Total catch for the weekend was approximately 300. In both cases our presentation was very very very slow with jigs tipped with minnows or leeches ( minnows accounting for the most fish). I truly hope you will bring your cameras back to our area, as it's great to see our waters on your show.

PS: The five large fish we kept are the only Walleye we have kept in nearly ten years. We believe in catch and release!"

Paul Pudwell sent in this shot from Rattle Snake Lake. He writes; "Steve caught this Essox Lucius (a.k.a SLEW SHARK) on 02/10/03 it was approximately 38" and around 15lbs."

Byron Stearns from Red Deer sent in this series .  The first is his Dad. Ole with a 25 lb, 42 inch Sylvan Lake Pike (posing with Nate).  The second is his 34 inch, 10 pound pike also from Sylvan Lake (and Nate is also with him).  The last is a friend, Landon Novotney with a 25 inch Red Deer River Brown Trout.

Here's one from Don Congdon (DMC) of his 10 year old daughter with her first Whitefish.  He writes: "Nothing beats time with the family and fishing"

Gord Fornataro sent in these photos from Eagle Lake.  He and his wife Paulette had a good day pike fishing, and while they were there somebody managed to drop their truck through the ice.  Gord writes;
This is how not to drive across Eagle Lake. These guys decided to drive over the pressure ridge instead of around it. Doubt they got much fishing in. Thanks to a couple of guys, named Bill and Gary they finally got out. Hard lesson learned so be careful! .
Gord Fornartaro

Paul Pudwell provided these pics of the Rattle Snake Lake Ice Fishing Tournament, held Feb 1 & 2 2003.  This first shot is of Boyd Herter, with one of the smaller fish of the day, and the second is of the winning fish at 32lbs.  Second place was 29.5lbs and third was 29.2 lbs.

Here's a couple from Eagle Lake sent in by Paulette and Gordie Fornataro.  Paulette said that she caught her first one through the ice on this trip.

Ken Brady sent these photos of him and his friend Roy.  They were quite successful on Chin Coulee in the summer of 2002 trolling with husky jerks.  All of these weighed in between 14 and 16 pounds.

Jud Gaetz provided this photo of his daughter Mckenna with this 23.5" long and 11" girth Rainbow.  He wrote:
"We believe this fish to be somewhere between 5 & 6 lb.  It was caught on the first day of a 14 day vacation and with both her & I being allergic to fish and with no place to keep the fish till we returned home we elected to give it to our boat guests of the day.

It was caught trolling a 4" Rapala plug in the waters of Swan Lake mid August 2002.  We averaged a 4 to 5 fish for every two hours of trolling. All were released with the exception of this one.  Fly fishing this lake is terrific."

Paul Pudwell sent in this collection of Slew Sharks from 40 Mile Reservoir. He writes; "We caught about 12, 10+ pound Pike on Sunday Oct. 20, 2002. The BIGGEST was about 14 lbs."

Darrell Girard caught this 16 lb pike in the Athabasca River, using a Rapala Storm plastic holographic.  It was 37 1/2 inches with a 16 3/4 girth.

Here's an incredible fish from David MacDonell. He writes:

Got this beauty in February at Travers Reservoir.  A slow morning had led me to abandon the shack and my 6" hole to try some of the 10" holes that were still open from the day before.  Good thing I did!!  This big momma hit a 1/4 jighead tipped with a minnow, and I doubt that it would have fit through the small hole in my shack.  After a 20min fight and some encouragement for my partner who was on his knee's at the top of the hole waiting to make a grab at it, we landed this 28lb 7oz Pike.  Who says you can't take big fish with a 27" ice fishing rod and 10lb test line!!!!  She had a girth of 23" and was  48.5" long.  Special thanks to the guys on the quad that took some pictures and sent me the Pics and the Negatives.
