AIN’T HE CUTE! (not for long)

Fingerling Northern Pike in an ACA Seine net at Crawling Valley Reservoir, Alberta

Fingerling Pike may look harmless enough at the wee age of two months but don’t turn your back on them. Even at this tender age Northern Pike already resemble their parents in appearance and "born to kill" instincts.

Northern Pike are the perfect ambush predator and will devour anything they can swallow. Even at this size they already have razor sharp teeth and a voracious appetite.

Although fingerling Pike start out feeding on plankton and small crustaceans it takes only a couple of months before their killer instincts kick-in and they begin to hunt for bigger, meatier meals.
